Special Kids Bexhill was a runner up and won £500 funding during our 2016 campaign.
What is Special Kids Bexhill?
Special Kids Bexhill is a registered charity organised by and run for families with children and young adults (up to and including 25 years old) with special needs. They organise activities, to enable children and young adults with special needs, and their families and siblings, to access activities and have fun within a supportive environment during the school holidays.
Why should Special Kids Bexhill receive a donation from the Good Neighbour programme?
This charity provides a lifeline for many families across East Sussex who would otherwise suffer from isolation. By enabling these families to access these activities, the special needs child can learn to form successful friendships, while the parents and siblings can form new friends and support networks. By reducing isolation, it reduces stress on the family as a whole, which means that the families firm a stronger unit and less likely to end up splitting.
What could Special Kids Bexhill use the money for?
Special Kids Bexhill book private sessions at local soft play, swimming pools, target sports, bowling, laser quest, roller skating, Christmas pantomime and ice skating exclusively (wherever possible) for children with special needs. There are coach trips each year to exciting places including Legoland Windsor, Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures, Colchester Zoo, London Zoo, Marwell Zoo and Natural History Museum London. Funding would be used towards the cost of these activities as they are part funded by the charity, and part funded by the parents.
