Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care won £2000 of Good Neighbour funding during our 2016 campaign.
What is Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care?
Phyllis Tuckwell care compassionately for people with terminal illness, and those closest to them, so that they live their life to the full and their ending is peaceful. They have recently started Social and Therapeutic Horticulture table-top gardening sessions for patients as research has shown that gardening can reduce stress levels and improve wellbeing. These sessions also provide normalisation, giving patients a chance to get away from their illness. Activities include potting herbs, making pot pourri and even creating miniature gardens.
Why should Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care receive a donation from the Good Neighbour programme?
Support from the Provident Good Neighbour programme would help bring some joy to someone who has been given the worst possible news. Every day is precious for people with a terminal illness and Phyllis Tuckwell’s gardening sessions really help patients restore self esteem and a sense of hope and achievement.
What could Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care use the money for?
They are seeking support to buy plants and materials – as these sessions are very popular and they wish to open them up to more and more patients. Items such as seeds, plants, gloves, plant pots, etc. as well as printed instruction sheets are all needed.
