In Charley’s Memory was a runner up and won £500 of Good Neighbour funding during our 2016 campaign.
What is In Charley’s Memory?
In Charley’s Memory was founded by Charley’s mum 2 years ago after Charley took his own life due to suffering with mental heath issues. In Charley’s Memory offer free counselling to young adults (11-25) and work closely with local schools to raise awareness of mental health issues. The long term goal of the charity is to open Charley’s Haven, a safe place where young adults and their families can go to receive the long term support required.
Why should In Charley’s Memory receive a donation from the Good Neighbour programme?
ICM is a not-for-profit charity which works hard with the community raising awareness and supporting young adults with mental health issues. They have a team of volunteers and volunteer counsellors who want to make a difference to people’s lives. ICM operates as a result of funding and donations only, without this they would not be able to continue the support.
What could In Charley’s Memory use the money for?
The NHS waiting list continues to grow, at times young adults don’t see anyone for anything up to 3 months, often feeling no one cares and suicide is their only option sadly. The money would be used to offer more facilities and a wider circle of support for the young adults and their families, as well as paying for materials used during some of their sessions. If ICM were fortunate enough to receive a donation, it would help towards the long term goal of opening Charley’s Haven.
