Brent Young Carers was a runner up and won £500 funding during our 2016 campaign.
What is Brent Young Carers?
Brent Young carers supports family carers aged 8-18 living in Brent. Often the kids are caring for a disabled parent or sibling and they provide respite breaks for the carers to take a break from their caring role and allow them to have fun as kids themselves. Brent Young Carers take them out for trips and arrange short breaks. Many of the carers are from families reliant on benefits and due to disability and poverty, these kinds of activities are out of reach. They give them the opportunity to have the same experiences as other children and by aiming to give them some of their childhood back.
Why should Brent Young Carers receive a donation from the Good Neighbour programme?
Their young carers project is always under pressure to provide activities for young carers and the young carers team are constantly fundraising to help achieve this. Brent Young Carers are proud of the 350+ young carers they support, and they’d like them to feel valued and supported in their role as a carer, but they also want them to have the chance to be a child. They strongly feel that no child should miss out on life experiences because they have a caring role.
What could Brent Young Carers use the money for?
The money will be used to provide days out tailored to meet the needs of the young carers. This will include a fun activity such as a theme park visit to allow the young carers to enjoy time with other young carers and to be able to have fun and relax away form their caring role.
